They say that the people that live a purposeful life are some of the most happiest creatures on earth. That purpose should be about the greater good of your community, and world around you. I've worked tirelessly over the past few years to pursue my happiness and help other women do the same. Part of my sunny outlook on life comes from the interactions I have with you guys, and my day to day clients.
Ive always loved people, and have had a fascination with their stories. We all have them, but for most of us we don't understand how our stories can inspire and help other people on their own journey. The simple things you take for granted like the way you get out of bed every morning and get your ass to work to provide for your family, helping someone cross the street or taking time to talk to a lonely elder are all part of the special magic you create in your little circle of the world.
It's super easy to get caught up in the bigger picture, the dreams of the future and a the pressure we put on ourselves to achieve our best potential and forget about how you can make a little gesture to serve both yourself and others around you. You do this without even realizing, just by being you. You are special, and you can change the world!
I've witnessed this first hand. A stranger stood in line Starbucks last week, head in her phone, scowling at what I can presume to be a stressful email or text message. Looking a little frazzled and in need of coffee! In front of her a guy, suited booted and politely making conversation with the lady behind the counter. As he placed his order, he turned to the lady behind him and asked if he could pay for her coffee as a random act of kindness. Everything about this women's body language changed. She snapped her head out of her phone, dropped her shoulders and took a deep breath. Her face light up and a broad smile came across her face as she began to interact with this guy. She thanked him and started to make excuses towards him. He looked her dead in the eye and said "Please stop, to make you smile was worth $4. I'm happy to do it, have a wonderful day, and pay that smile forward!"
As I stood waiting for my Latte, I made conversation with he lady who had indeed paid the coffee forward to me and I to the man behind me. She was obviously very moved by the gesture and always in search of the next story began to chat with her. She explained that her son was sick and that she was very concerned about his condition, but that in order to survive she had to go to work to cover bills and his medical expenses. She was working every hour she could to ensure the well being of her son and was racked with guilt that she wasn't by his side.
"That man, doesn't even realize how much I needed the coffee, or the smile today!"
Our coffees arrived and we followed each other out of the door, noticing that the coffees were still being paid forward down the line, each person, with their own little story touched by one guy who they would never know. As we reached the busy parking lot a young mom with a stroller and a child on each side was struggling to make the steps into the coffee shop, without hesitation my new friend dropped everything to help her lift the stroller over the three steps, out of the parking lot and into to the walk way. I ran back for the door and held it open as she muscled all of her gear in! She thanked us both in the chaos to which the lady replied "M'am today, is the day when good things happen. You are welcome!"
There is no doubt in my mind that had she not been touched by the random act of kindness that this one lady would have gone about her business worried, upset, racked buy guilt with her head in her phone completely unaware of the world around her and the lady with her stroller. For a second she put all of her drama a side to help another mom.
My point is people are special! The guy who paid for my coffee, the women struggling and hustling through life to support her family and son, and the mother looking after her three children. All of us have the ability to change someones life, even if it is just with the smallest of gestures. The ripple effect of a simple compliment, act of kindness or listening ear is a magical thing.
For me living a purposeful life is all about touching everyone you come into contact with in a positive way. People are beautiful creatures with the ability to lift and support each other through our stories. I hope you realize how special you and your story is. I hope you understand how inspiring you are. I hope that you make a difference in your day to those around you, because you can change the world.
Stay Fabulous!
